It was a beautiful night, loaded with excitement and fun. It was the 2012 WCCCC Community Awards Banquet held at the newly remodeled Whittier Radisson Hotel Banquet Hall.
The Banquet marked the WCCCC's 25th Silver Anniversary of continuous service to the residents of the Whittier County and surrounding areas.
The Whittier County Community Coordinating Council (WCCCC) Community Awardees for this year are; Dr. Hubert Chang, SCU/L.A. Chiropractic College (Public Agency of the Year), Angie Castro (Legislator of the Year), Elias Alvarado (Lifetime Achievement Award), Mrs. Sam Guyan (Citizen of the Year), Sheriff Lee Baca (Benefactor of the Year). Also for special recognition; Stasie Dear, Sgt. Brian Doyle, and Rolland Alexander II.
The dignitaries included; Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe (4th District), who cut his vacation short to be an important part of the Evening's program. The Supervisor also had his wife, Julie Knabe with hi to enjoy the evening.
Knabe was joined by honoree Sheriff Lee Baca of Los Angeles County, Whittier Councilmember Joe Vinatieri, L.A. County Chief P. Michael Freeman (retired), and a number of other local school board members including Jeff Baird (Whittier Union HSD), Jan Baird (South Whittier School District), Gary Mendez, Rio Hondo College Board, and Efrain Aceves (Whittier City School Board).
The 150 guests included Whittier Chamber President Sue Dean and executive Director Carol Crosby, Los Cerritos Newspapers publisher Brian Hews and his wife, Ian Calderon candidate for the 57th A.D., and his Republican challenger Noel Jaimes (La Mirada).
The Master of Ceremonies was Joe Matthews (Former deputy to Supv. Don Knabe) who works in the L.A. County Park & Recreation Department, Event Coordinator; Dr. Ralph Pacheco (LC Foundation, Inc.), 2012 President of the Whittier County Community Coordinating Council (WCCCC), and Co-Coordinator Mrs. Jean Wall (WCCCC Treasurer & Community Laision and a past WCCCC president).
The night sparkled with live music and a lively auction including an Even or Odd contest. There were many testimonies about the 25 year history of the WCCCC's work in the community. Many of the past recipients of the WCCCC Community Awards were present at the event; Rev. Jim Ortiz (2001 Citien of the Year), Jean Wall (2004 Citizen of the Year), Deborah Pacheco (2005 Citizen of the Year), Joe Matthews (2009 Legislator of the Year), Public Agencies of the Year; L.A. Co. Fire Station No. 96 (2001), CHP (SFS Office) (2002), Jo Ann Delgado (CRC, South Whittier) (2005), Don Knabe (2000 Benefactor of the Year), and Joe Valverde (2003 Benefactor of the Year).
It was a memorable night, everyone celebrating the WCCCC's 25 years of service to community with many of those present who were part of the Council's illustrious history...
